Rafts on Sakae Krang River The Sakae Krang River flows through Uthai Thani Province and carries with it stories passed down through generations. In the past, merchants navigating the river could tell when they had reached Ban Sakae Krang, especially from the second to the third lunar month, by observing the small, elongated greenish-yellow flowers of the Sakae trees hanging along the riverbanks.

Both sides of the river are lined with floating houses. On the western bank, there is a dense cluster of buildings and a large market where most of the goods are locally grown or handmade, including both savory and sweet foods. The eastern bank features Ko Thepho, an island filled with fruit orchards and natural bamboo groves. The floating houses on both sides are wooden structures built on platforms made from large bamboo rafts.

Most residents of these floating houses work in fishing. After catching fish, they clean and skewer them, then dry or smoke them to make dried fish, which is sold in local markets. In addition, some maintain fish cages to raise freshwater species such as catfish, tilapia, and Thepho fish, providing an additional source of income.

The lifestyle along the Sakae Krang River makes it an ideal location for boat tours around Ko Thepho or even downstream to Manorom District in Chai Nat Province, a trip that takes approximately two hours. Long-tail boats with roofs can accommodate 10–12 people. Renting a boat within the municipal area costs around 250 baht, while trips to Wat Tha Sung cost about 800 baht. For reservations, contact Lung Chalong at 08 9859 9394. Larger boats that can accommodate up to 40 people are available for around 4,000 baht, excluding dinner service. These tours run from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Inquiries can be made with Khun Wira Bamrungsri at 08 6577 7781 or 08 1830 0653, or via fax at 0 5651 3062.

A river tour along the Sakae Krang not only offers relaxation and enjoyment but also provides insight into local life, the relationship between the community and nature, and the preservation of traditional culture. Witnessing the Sakae trees in bloom, observing the bustling riverside markets, and exploring the orchards and bamboo groves of Ko Thepho create an immersive experience that showcases the charm and uniqueness of Uthai Thani Province.

Travel along the Sakae Krang River can also continue to Manorom District in Chai Nat Province, taking about two hours by boat. Visitors can enjoy the natural scenery, observe wildlife, capture photographs, or simply relax and take in the peaceful atmosphere along this important river.

The Sakae Krang River was historically a vital trade route, and today it serves as a tourist attraction that supports the local economy while preserving the community’s culture. It is a perfect destination for those who love nature as well as for travelers interested in experiencing the traditional riverside lifestyle of Uthai Thani Province.
