The Giant Champa Tree, also known as the Giant Xiang Tree or the Bee Tree, is one of the most remarkable Unseen attractions of Uthai Thani Province. Located in Ban Sanam, Ban Rai District, this ancient tree is estimated to be around 300–400 years old and has been officially registered as a “Heritage Tree of the Land”. With its enormous trunk that requires 40 people to encircle and its spectacular buttress roots that spread out majestically, the tree offers a truly awe-inspiring natural wonder for visitors to admire.

Travelers who come here are fascinated not only by the sheer size of the tree but also by the serene atmosphere of the surrounding forest. The shade beneath the tree is cool and peaceful, with birdsong and the rustling of leaves blending into a calming soundtrack of nature. Locals often call it the “Bee Tree” because bees have made their hives here, adding to its ecological significance and symbolizing the richness of the natural environment.

Visiting the Giant Champa Tree is not just about marveling at a natural landmark but also about experiencing the local way of life. On Saturdays and Sundays, a community market called the “Giant Tree Market” takes place nearby, where villagers sell traditional products such as handmade clothing, woven crafts, local herbs, and home-cooked delicacies. This creates a vibrant yet warm atmosphere, allowing visitors to connect with the Lao Khrang ethnic community that has lived in the area for generations and preserved their traditions through food, crafts, and culture.

The site is located within the forest of Ban Sanam, easily accessible by private car. Admission is free, and the area is open to visitors all day, making it an ideal destination for families, couples, or eco-tourism enthusiasts who wish to escape city life and enjoy a more meaningful travel experience.

A trip to the Giant Champa Tree is more than just sightseeing. It is a journey to witness the grandeur of nature, to feel the tranquility of an ancient forest, to learn about the culture of the local community, and to support sustainable tourism that values both heritage and environment. Uthai Thani may seem like a quiet province, but treasures like this prove that it holds profound natural and cultural riches worth exploring.
