Wat Nong Kui is located at house number 79, Ban Nong Khui, Moo 5, Nong Krathum Subdistrict, Thap Than District, Uthai Thani Province. The temple belongs to the Mahanikaya sect and occupies an area of 21 rai, 2 ngan, and 17 square wah. The temple grounds are bordered by public roads and private land, with the northern side connected to a public road, the southern side adjacent to another public road, the eastern side bordering private land, and the western side adjoining a public road. The temple is situated on an elevated plain, making it suitable for the construction of various religious structures.

 

Among the important buildings within Wat Nong Kui is the ordination hall (ubosot), constructed in 1927. The structure is built of brick and cement, measuring 9.65 meters in width and 18 meters in length, with surrounding walls that provide a solemn atmosphere. Inside the ubosot is the principal Buddha image in the Mara Vichaya posture, a large stucco statue with a lap width of eight sok (approximately 4 meters). Another sacred object is the replica of the Buddha’s footprint, measuring 55 centimeters in width and 130 centimeters in length, enshrined in a Mondop pavilion with four gables, each side measuring 6 meters.

 

In addition to the ubosot, Wat Nong Kui also has a wooden sermon hall, built in 1949, with a size of 12 meters wide and 24 meters long, serving as a place for chanting and religious gatherings. There are also four wooden monk residences (kutis), which provide accommodation and a place for the monks to practice their religious duties. The temple remains a significant spiritual and communal center for local residents, where various Buddhist rituals, merit-making ceremonies, ordinations, and traditional festivals are held.

 

Wat Nong Kui was formally established as a temple on March 14, 1912. It was named after the village where it is located. The establishment of the temple was initiated by two community leaders, Mr. Sod Osod and Mr. Chan, who played key roles in uniting the faith of local villagers to create a sacred space for Buddhist practice. Today, the abbot of the temple is Phra Athikan Charan Silachoto, aged 53 with 17 years in the monastic order, who oversees the temple’s religious activities and preservation.

 

With its long history, sacred architecture, and role in preserving local traditions, Wat Nong Kui is not only a place of worship but also a cultural heritage site of Uthai Thani Province. It reflects the devotion of generations of villagers and stands as a valuable destination for those interested in religious tourism, cultural exploration, and the appreciation of traditional Thai Buddhist architecture.
