Wat Khao Rup Chang is located in Dong Pa Kham Subdistrict along the Pichit–Taphan Hin route, approximately 15 kilometers from Pichit town. This temple holds significant historical and cultural value for the local community. Its highlight is a Lanna-style chedi situated atop a hill, where white rocks are stacked in a way that resembles an elephant. Visitors can climb to the top using a 136-step Naga staircase, which not only provides a bit of exercise but also offers a stunning panoramic view of Pichit and Taphan Hin towns. The spacious hilltop terrace serves as a popular viewpoint for both tourists and devotees.

Originally, Wat Khao Rup Chang housed an ancient chedi, which was renovated around 20 years ago. The chedi is now adorned with golden glazed tiles and surrounded by a protective fence to enhance safety and beauty. In addition to the main chedi, the temple has a large new viharn (assembly hall) to accommodate worshippers and religious ceremonies. The old chedi, built in the Ayutthaya period, is a Lanna-style chedi with a twelve-cornered square base. Its bell is shaped like a starfruit flower, though the chedi’s pinnacle has collapsed over time, preserving its ancient charm and historical significance.

The temple also features an old four-sided mondop near the new ordination hall. Inside the mondop is a bronze footprint of the Buddha, a sacred object highly revered by visitors. The walls of the mondop are adorned with murals depicting the Traiphum Phra Ruang, a classic Thai religious text. These murals not only convey religious stories but also reflect the lifestyle, beliefs, and artistic traditions of historical Thailand.

Wat Khao Rup Chang serves not only as a sacred site for meditation and merit-making but also as an important cultural and historical attraction. Visitors can climb the Naga staircase to enjoy panoramic views or study the artwork inside the viharn and mondop to learn about Thailand’s long-standing history and cultural heritage. The temple is a must-visit destination in Pichit for those interested in Thai culture, art, and local geography.

For travelers, visiting Wat Khao Rup Chang is free of charge. The temple is conveniently accessible via the Pichit–Taphan Hin route. It is also an ideal spot for photography, offering serene natural surroundings atop the hill, making it a well-rounded destination for tourists seeking cultural and nature experiences alike.
