Peniat Ancient City is located in Village 4, Khlong Narai Subdistrict, Chanthaburi Province, approximately 300 meters southeast of Wat Thong Thap. This site has been officially surveyed and registered as an ancient site by the Fine Arts Department.

It is believed that this location may have been the original center of Chanthaburi around 1,000 years ago. Today, only remnants of laterite walls and earthen mounds, standing about 1–3 meters high, remain. The exact type of structures that once stood here is still unclear.

The Fine Arts Department’s registration and survey of the site aim to preserve its historical and archaeological value for both research and tourism purposes. Although the structures are no longer intact, the surviving laterite walls indicate the strength and planning of ancient city construction. The earthen mounds also provide insight into the city’s layout and defensive strategies.

The significance of Peniat Ancient City goes beyond its age; it offers a glimpse into the lifestyle and spatial organization of the ancient community. Archaeologists suggest that this area may have served as a center for administration or trade in early Chanthaburi. Studying the remaining walls and mounds helps understand urban planning, residential distribution, and defensive measures of that era.

To visit Peniat Ancient City, travelers can start from Wat Thong Thap and head approximately 300 meters southeast to reach the site. Visiting this historical site provides an opportunity not only to learn about the past but also to experience the peaceful and serene environment typical of archaeological locations, offering inspiration for those interested in Thai history and culture.

Peniat Ancient City remains an important educational and cultural site, promoting heritage tourism and raising awareness of the value of preserving historical landmarks for future generations. For anyone interested in Thai history and the origins of Chanthaburi, this site provides a rare opportunity to see remnants of ancient walls and earthworks while learning about the city’s historical layout, defense strategies, and the daily life of its inhabitants.
