Koh Thepho in Uthai Thani Province is a destination that combines fascinating geography with local heritage. Originally, this area was a promontory stretching between the Chao Phraya River and the Sakae Krang River, which converge at its southern end. Later, a canal was dug across the northern side to allow water from the Chao Phraya River to feed the Sakae Krang River during the dry season. This transformation turned the promontory into a complete island, which has since been known as Koh Thepho. Today, it is not only fertile farmland but also a charming destination for eco-tourism and cultural experiences in Uthai Thani.

Koh Thepho is especially popular among cycling enthusiasts who enjoy exploring scenic rural landscapes. The cycling route begins at a small bridge connecting the municipal fresh market with Wat Uposatharam. The bridge is short and narrow, just enough for bicycles or motorcycles to pass, marking the starting point of the island journey. Once across, cyclists are greeted with peaceful views of bamboo groves, cornfields, and rice paddies that create a refreshing and serene environment. The locals here live a simple lifestyle in harmony with nature, cultivating pomelos such as the famous “Manorom” and “Khao Tangkwa” varieties, as well as seasonal fruits like rambai.

As the route continues through Ban Tha Dindaeng, visitors will notice bamboo mats, known as lamphan, displayed for sale in front of local houses. These mats are handwoven from the abundant bamboo in the area using traditional skills passed down through generations. Unlike mass-produced goods, these mats are sold directly by the villagers, giving visitors a genuine glimpse into local life. Further along the route, cyclists can stop at Wat Phumitham, where a quiet pavilion offers a place to rest and enjoy the serene temple surroundings. Completing the full loop around the island covers approximately 33 kilometers and ends at the pier, where travelers can cross over to the renowned Wat Tha Sung.

Beyond its natural beauty and cycling routes, Koh Thepho is also known for its rich community products under the OTOP (One Tambon One Product) initiative. Highlights include processed fish products from the local women’s group, finely crafted knives made from high-quality steel, bamboo handicrafts showcasing local creativity, and fragrant incense sticks. These products reflect the resourcefulness and craftsmanship of the island’s community, adding to its cultural charm.

For travelers who need maps of Koh Thepho and Uthai Thani town, they can contact Mr. Prasong Srimuang, president of the Uthai Thani Cycling for Health Club, at Charoen Bicycle Shop, 100–102 Tha Chang Road, Mueang Uthai Thani District, Tel. 0 5651 1991, available daily. In addition, the Subdistrict Administrative Organization of Hat Thanong provides bicycle rentals, with 30 bicycles available at 40 baht per day. Rentals can be arranged through Mr. Sawat Boonket from the local steel products group at Tel. 08 6216 3510.

Koh Thepho is therefore much more than a simple tourist attraction. It represents a blend of natural beauty, peaceful rural life, and unique local craftsmanship. Visitors who come here will not only enjoy relaxation and fresh air but also gain an authentic cultural experience that reflects the spirit of Uthai Thani.
