Royal Park Rajapruek became widely known as the main venue for the Royal Flora Ratchaphruek International Horticultural Expositions in 2006 and 2011. These events gave Chiang Mai a tangible, world-class horticultural showcase. After the expos ended, the site did not go quiet or fade away. Instead, it was developed into a year-round park that continues to refine its exhibitions and visitor experience to match modern travel and learning styles. Today, the park is overseen by the Highland Research and Development Institute (Public Organization), which helps ensure that the beauty you see on the surface is supported by a deeper layer of academic work and long-term sustainability thinking.

 

What truly sets this place apart from a typical garden visit is the park’s deliberate “storytelling” through space. You are not just walking past flowers and heading home. You can sense how plants and landscapes are arranged to communicate ideas—such as biodiversity across different environments, the relationship between plants and everyday life, and how local wisdom can be blended with modern technology. This is especially clear in the greenhouse zone, where many visitors naturally slow down and linger. Rare species, unusual forms, and the contrast between simulated climates are easy to notice. Moving from one section to another feels like shifting scenes—from a “beautiful garden” to a “relaxed classroom” without any hard boundaries.

 

For many travelers, one of the park’s most iconic highlights is Ho Kham Luang, the signature Lanna-style pavilion that anchors the overall atmosphere.
