Wat Laharn Rai is located in Nong Lalok Subdistrict, Ban Khai District, Rayong Province. It is an ancient temple with a history spanning more than 190 years, built around 1811 during the early Rattanakosin period. The temple is regarded as one of the most important in Rayong and serves as a spiritual center for both local residents and Buddhists nationwide who revere the teachings and practices of Luang Pu Tim Issarigo.

 

This temple is renowned for being the residence of Luang Pu Tim Issarigo, a highly respected monk known for his modest lifestyle and strict adherence to Buddhist discipline. He was a disciple of Venerable Ajahn Mun Bhuridatta Thera, the great master of the Thai forest meditation tradition. Luang Pu Tim devoted his life to meditation practice, moral discipline, and the teaching of mindfulness and wisdom to his disciples. His humility and compassion have made him one of the most revered monks in the eastern region of Thailand.

 

Within the temple grounds, visitors will find several significant and culturally valuable structures, including the old ordination hall built in traditional Thai architectural style blended with local eastern influences, the chedi containing Luang Pu Tim’s relics which stands as a sacred landmark, and the Luang Pu Tim Museum that displays his personal belongings, old photographs, and various sacred amulets, allowing visitors to learn about his life and teachings.

 

Wat Laharn Rai is also widely known as a sacred source of powerful amulets, especially the “Jaroen Phon” coins, “Phra Khun Paen Phong Prai Guman,” and other sacred powders, all consecrated by Luang Pu Tim through his deep meditative power. These amulets are believed to bring good fortune, loving-kindness, protection from harm, and prosperity to those who possess them.

 

The atmosphere of the temple is peaceful and shady, ideal for meditation and Buddhist practice. The area is surrounded by large trees and quiet walkways, perfect for meditation, chanting, or joining religious activities such as almsgiving on Buddhist holy days, candlelight processions, and dhamma sermons. The temple continues to uphold these traditional Buddhist customs to this day.

 

During major Buddhist festivals such as Magha Puja, Visakha Puja, and Asalha Puja, large numbers of devotees come to make merit and pay respect to the chedi enshrining Luang Pu Tim’s relics for spiritual blessings and prosperity in their lives.

 

Getting There: From Rayong city, take the Ban Khai–Ban Bueng Road. At kilometer 9, there is a sign pointing to Wat Laharn Rai. Turn into the side road and drive for about 1 kilometer to reach the temple. The route is fully paved and convenient for all types of vehicles, with ample parking space for visitors and tour groups.
