Ao Wong Duean is a beautiful crescent-shaped beach stretching about 500 meters on Koh Samet, Rayong. Its name means “Half Moon Bay” due to its natural curved shoreline resembling a crescent moon. Known for its crystal-clear waters and fine white sand, it is one of the most popular beaches on the island and a regular drop-off point for ferries arriving from Ban Phe Pier.

During the day, visitors can enjoy various water activities such as kayaking, jet skiing, snorkeling, or taking a speedboat tour around the island. At night, the beach transforms into a lively area filled with beachfront bars, restaurants, live music, and fire shows, creating a fun and relaxed tropical atmosphere. The north end of the bay is quieter and ideal for those seeking peace, while the middle section is lively with shops, restaurants, and resorts. There is also a national park camping area for those who want to stay close to nature.

The best time to visit Ao Wong Duean is from November to May when the sky is clear and the sea is calm. During June to October, it is the monsoon season, so visitors are advised to check weather conditions before traveling.

Getting There: Travelers can take a ferry from Ban Phe Pier (Saeree Pier) in Rayong, which takes around 30 – 40 minutes to reach Koh Samet. From there, a smaller boat or taxi boat can be hired directly to Ao Wong Duean, with several daily departures both ways. For those driving, parking is available at Ban Phe before boarding the ferry.

Ao Wong Duean is located within Khao Laem Ya – Mu Ko Samet National Park, under the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation. The park manages the cleanliness, safety, and order of the beach area to promote sustainable tourism. Visitors wishing to camp overnight can contact park officers in advance, as designated camping spaces and basic facilities are available.

The bay is also part of the island’s coastal ecosystem conservation area, with ongoing campaigns to reduce marine waste and preserve coral reefs. Visitors are encouraged to help maintain cleanliness, avoid single-use plastics, and refrain from touching or stepping on coral while snorkeling.
