Khao Chamao Waterfall (Khlong Nam Sai Waterfall) is a crystal-clear cascade flowing through lush rainforest inside Khao Chamao–Khao Wong National Park, Rayong Province. The waterfall stretches about 3 kilometers, echoing the sounds of falling water and forest birds that accompany visitors along the trail. Its charm lies in the purity of the stream and the variety of scenic layers, making the trek both relaxing and adventurous.

From Sukhumvit Road at kilometer marker 274, turn onto a local route for about 16–17 kilometers to reach the park gate. The final stretch is an uphill, winding road that requires cautious driving, especially during the rainy season when the road may be slippery. Inside the park, there is a parking area and a visitor center with rangers on duty.

The main stream forms eight tiers of waterfalls, each with its own distinct character: Wang Nueng, Wang Matcha, Wang Morakot, Wang Sai Ngam, Pha Kluai Mai, Chong Khaep, Hok Sai, and Pha Sung. Wang Matcha is known for its pool filled with freshwater fish called Pla Phluang, while Pha Kluai Mai and Chong Khaep feature rock walls surrounded by dense forest and echoing water sounds. The topmost Pha Sung tier offers a majestic curtain of water falling into a deep emerald pool – a perfect spot to rest and enjoy the cool breeze before returning.

The surrounding ecosystem is rich with tropical flora such as banyan trees, ferns, and mosses blanketing the rocks. Wild orchids cling to damp cliffs, while butterflies and forest birds are common sights. Schools of Pla Phluang fish are the symbolic “residents” of this pristine stream. Visitors are encouraged not to feed the fish or swim in strong currents to help preserve the natural balance.

Getting There From Rayong city, take Highway 3 (Sukhumvit Road) passing Ban Phe and Klaeng District until kilometer 274, then turn left onto a local road for about 17 kilometers to reach the park headquarters. The waterfall is about 65 kilometers from Rayong city, or roughly a 1.5-hour drive. Travelers without private transport can take a Rayong–Chanthaburi bus and continue by local songthaew (shared pickup truck) to Ban Nong Nam Sai at the park entrance.

The best time to visit is from May to November, during the rainy season when water flow is high yet safe to explore. Popular activities include hiking along nature trails, swimming, photography, and camping. The park provides designated camping areas and bungalows for overnight stays.

Visitors should follow park regulations strictly: do not collect plants or wildlife, dispose of litter properly, and avoid using perfume or lotion before swimming to maintain water quality. Safety signs are clearly posted along the trail, and visitors should remain within permitted areas.

Nearby attractions within the same park include Khlong Plakang Waterfall (about 3 km away) and the scenic viewpoint at Khao Wong, where visitors can admire panoramic views of the eastern mountain ranges. The area is ideal for those seeking tranquility in Rayong’s untouched nature.
