Saeng Chan Beach is a beach located in Mueang District, Rayong Province, about 5 kilometers south of downtown. It is the closest beach to Rayong City and a popular spot for both locals and first-time visitors, thanks to its easy access and the full range of amenities along the shoreline.

 

The beach arcs gently along the Gulf of Thailand. A line of rock groynes has been built to prevent coastal erosion, which makes the area unsuitable for swimming in open water. Instead, it has become a favorite fishing spot for anglers from Rayong and beyond, especially in the early morning and late afternoon. It is also one of Rayong’s lovely sunset viewpoints.

 

The atmosphere at Saeng Chan Beach is steeped in the simple rhythms of the local fishing way of life. Houses and fishing boats lined up along the shore reflect people’s long-standing bond with the sea. The area is also home to several small fish sauce factories that produce Rayong’s famous fish sauce, giving off a distinctive aroma and forming a key part of the coastal community’s identity.

 

Although it’s not a beach focused on water activities, Saeng Chan Beach has a quiet charm. Visitors can drive along the beachfront road to enjoy sea views and the breeze, or stop for fresh seafood at local eateries dotted along the seafront. Many of these restaurants are family-run and serve homestyle dishes such as grilled prawns, grilled squid, and comforting seafood rice porridge in a friendly, casual setting.

 

Another highlight is the sand pagoda contest held on the beach every year right after the Songkran festival. This long-standing Rayong tradition brings together people from nearby communities to build beautiful, intricate sand pagodas, showcasing unity and the spirit of this seaside community.

 

Getting There is easy. From downtown Rayong, take Sukhumvit Road toward the Rayong River mouth, then turn onto the coastal road; after a few kilometers you’ll reach the beach. There are several access points and parking spots along the way. Those without a car can take local songthaews (shared pickup trucks) running between Rayong’s main market and Pak Nam. Several beachfront hotels and resorts are located nearby, such as Fortune Saeng Chan Beach Hotel, ideal for a nature-close stay by the sea.

 

Today, Saeng Chan Beach is open to visitors daily under the care of Rayong Municipality, which regularly maintains cleanliness and order. Local residents also help protect the environment by planting trees and collecting litter, keeping the beach beautiful and sustainable as a cherished public space.
