The Island and Sea Natural Museum is the first museum in Thailand dedicated to marine botany and zoology. It was established by the Royal Thai Navy as a center for preserving and promoting knowledge about the biodiversity of Thailand’s islands and seas. This project is part of the Plant Genetic Conservation Project under the Royal Initiative of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, who has long recognized the importance of protecting natural resources as a legacy for future generations.

Located at Khao Ma Cho, Samae San Subdistrict, Sattahip District, Chonburi Province, the museum sits in an area abundant in marine ecosystems and island biodiversity, making it a prime destination for nature studies and eco-tourism. The architecture of the museum was designed by the Faculty of Architecture at King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang. The buildings are uniquely arranged in ascending levels along the hillside, leading up to the summit. This design allows visitors to enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of the sea and nearby islands, perfectly combining educational exploration with an appreciation of nature’s beauty.

The Island and Sea Natural Museum is divided into three main sections: the museum itself, which showcases exhibits on marine plants and animals; a botanical garden featuring rare and local plant species; and nature study trails on Samae San Island, where visitors can walk through preserved environments and experience the richness of local ecosystems firsthand.

The exhibition area comprises five themed buildings, each with a unique concept. The first building, Honoring the Great Kings, celebrates the contributions of Thailand’s monarchs to the conservation of natural resources. The second building, The United Wisdom of Scholars, highlights research and collaborative efforts by scientists and conservationists. The third building, The Wise Seek to Learn, inspires curiosity and learning about natural sciences, especially for young visitors. The fourth building, Combating Environmental Threats, focuses on environmental challenges such as pollution and resource destruction. Finally, the fifth building, Safeguarding Thailand’s Potential, emphasizes the importance of natural resource conservation as a valuable foundation for the nation’s future.

This museum serves as an ideal learning center for families, tourists, researchers, and anyone with an interest in environmental conservation. Visitors not only gain valuable knowledge about marine ecosystems but also enjoy the surrounding natural beauty. The exhibits cover a broad range of topics, including agriculture, science, technology, medicine, and the interconnectedness of life and nature, making it a perfect destination for both education and leisure.

The Island and Sea Natural Museum is open daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Admission fees are affordable: 50 THB for adults, 20 THB for children aged 3 to 18 years, and free admission for children under 110 centimeters in height. Foreign visitors are charged 100 THB, while off-duty navy personnel presenting an ID card pay only 30 THB. This accessible pricing helps encourage people of all ages to learn about and engage with environmental conservation.

In addition to exploring the museum, visitors can stroll through the botanical garden, which features rare and native plant species, or walk along the nature study trails on Samae San Island. This area is known for its pristine marine resources and well-preserved ecosystems, providing an immersive experience that deepens understanding of conservation and the delicate balance of nature.

Traveling to the museum is convenient, as it is located in Sattahip, Chonburi, a well-known tourist destination. Visitors can drive along Sukhumvit Road or use connecting routes to reach the area. A visit to the museum can easily be combined with nearby attractions such as stunning beaches, historic temples, and local markets offering fresh seafood, making it perfect for either a day trip or an extended stay.

The Island and Sea Natural Museum plays a crucial role not only as a leading eco-tourism site but also as a center for cultivating environmental awareness. It helps visitors appreciate the value of natural resources and inspires action to preserve the planet sustainably.
