Bamboo-Wrapped Ceramic Handicraft Village (Moo 3, Thung Maha Charoen Subdistrict, Wang Nam Yen District, Sakaeo) is a community craft hub driven by a women’s cooperative known as the Chai Patthana Women’s Cooperative. The village’s signature is “bamboo weaving wrapped around ceramic” — marrying the durability of fired clay with the finesse of Thai bamboo weaving to create functional pieces and gifts. The fine, tidy weave and calm, natural tones give a contemporary feel, making each item both practical and beautifully collectible.

 

The village is friendly and down-to-earth. Visitors can closely observe the process: selecting and shaving bamboo, heat/steam treatment to deter borers, forming the ceramic body, finishing, then wrapping and sealing so the piece is truly usable. Popular items include baskets, planters, vases, bowls, gift boxes, and modern home décor. These pieces are sturdy, easy to care for, and designed to last.

 

The community welcomes visits to the workshop and offers basic demonstrations. First-timers can try small starter pieces. Please contact the cooperative in advance—especially for school groups or study visits—so materials and instructors can be prepared. Getting There: From Sakaeo town, take Highway 317 to km markers 120–121 and turn right onto Ta Lang Nai–Khlong Ta Sun Road for about 19 km; or continue on Highway 317 to km 128–129 and turn right onto Highway 3434. You’ll see a police kiosk on the right; continue 11–12 km to Khlong Yai junction, turn right, then continue about 8 km and enter Ban Chaipattana Soi 4. Roads are paved almost all the way and accessible by sedan.

 

Small tip: if you plan to buy multiple pieces, bring blankets or padding for the car. Midday sun can be strong—a hat or umbrella helps. For long-lasting beauty, ask the artisans about care: gentle wiping, avoiding direct heat/sun, and storing in a ventilated, dry place.
