Tha Krabak Reservoir is located in Moo 10, Tha Yaek Subdistrict, Sa Kaeo Province, about 32 kilometers from Sa Kaeo City. It is a large reservoir built under a Royal Initiative Project aimed at improving the irrigation system in the foothill plains, providing water all year round for agriculture and household use, alleviating drought problems, and supporting local farming communities.

 

The reservoir is an earthen dam approximately 17.5 meters high and 720 meters long. It collects runoff from surrounding streams and creeks to supply water for cultivation, daily use, and ecological balance. The dam has played a vital role in increasing agricultural productivity and ensuring water security for nearby villages throughout the year.

 

The surrounding landscape features open woodland with a mix of tall trees and ornamental plants such as Dipterocarpus alatus (yang na), Pterocarpus macrocarpus (pradu), Afzelia xylocarpa (ma kha mong), and Lagerstroemia (ta baek). The shaded area around the reservoir provides a relaxing environment for picnics, leisurely walks, or quiet reflection by the water. Morning and late afternoon are especially beautiful, as sunlight reflects off the calm surface of the reservoir.

 

The crest of the dam offers panoramic views of distant hills and lush forests. During certain seasons, migratory birds visit the reservoir, making it a peaceful spot for birdwatching and photography. The paved road encircling the reservoir is also popular among locals for jogging, cycling, and evening strolls.

 

Tha Krabak Reservoir not only supports local livelihoods but also serves as an ecological haven for wildlife, helping to maintain the natural balance of the foothill environment. It is one of the exemplary projects that reflect His Majesty the King’s dedication to sustainable water resource development in Thailand.

 

Getting There From Sa Kaeo City, take Highway 317 (Sa Kaeo–Chanthaburi route) for approximately 25 kilometers toward Wang Nam Yen District, then turn onto the local road S.K.3008 for another 7 kilometers. The entrance is clearly marked, and vehicles can drive directly to the dam’s crest.

 

Tha Krabak Reservoir is not only an important water source but also a tranquil natural attraction, ideal for relaxation, family outings, and sunset viewing. It is one of Sa Kaeo’s hidden gems that combines scenic beauty with community benefit.
