Wat Wang Takhro is located in Ban Wang Takhro, Moo 4, Nong Ya Plong Subdistrict, Ban Dan Lan Hoi District, Sukhothai Province. It is a community temple under the Maha Nikaya order and has served as an important spiritual and cultural center for the local community since its establishment in 1955. The temple is named after the village where it is situated and covers a total area of 14 rai, 3 ngan, and 16 square wah, with land title deed No. 1352. The temple is conveniently accessible, bordered by public roads to the north, south, and east, and adjoining Ban Wang Takhro village to the west, making it a central gathering place for religious and community activities.

The temple complex includes several significant structures that are both architecturally notable and functionally important. The sermon hall is a single-story wooden building measuring 12 meters wide and 27 meters long, constructed in 1956, used for religious meetings and community events. There are three monk residences and one hall for merit-making activities, enabling the temple to accommodate monks and community gatherings effectively.

Currently, the temple is administered by Phra Sangharak San Piyasiro, who oversees both the governance of the temple and its educational programs. The temple’s Buddhist studies school, specializing in Dhamma studies, has been offering classes since 1982, providing local residents and youth with access to Buddhist education and moral training.

Wat Wang Takhro houses several religious artifacts and structures of significance. The ordination hall contains a single meditating Buddha statue, built in 2003, serving as a focal point for worship and religious ceremonies. In addition, there is a prayer hall, a concrete building constructed in 1996, used for group chanting and ritual activities, allowing the community convenient access to religious practices.

Wat Wang Takhro also plays a vital role in the preservation and promotion of traditional herbal knowledge. It features an extensive herbal garden containing over 500 species, including both common and rare herbs. This garden serves as an important learning center for traditional Thai medicine and herbal treatments. Government agencies and private individuals frequently visit for study and observation, such as the Sukhothai Traditional Thai Medicine Club and other interested groups, fostering knowledge networks between the temple, community, and relevant organizations. This helps ensure the transmission and practical application of traditional herbal knowledge for future generations.

The herbal garden also contributes to eco-tourism, allowing visitors to experience the beauty of the plants while learning about the medicinal properties of various herbs. Wat Wang Takhro thus functions as a comprehensive center for religion, culture, and traditional wisdom, meeting both educational needs in Thai medicine and interests in cultural tourism.

With its religious artifacts, functional structures, efficient administration, and valuable herbal garden, Wat Wang Takhro serves as a community spiritual hub and an important cultural center. It is a community temple with multiple roles, encompassing religious practices, education, preservation of traditional herbal knowledge, and cultural tourism, making it a true center of learning and community life.
