The Chantaburi Horticultural Research Centre is located in Tapong Subdistrict, Khlung District, Chanthaburi Province, on Sukhumvit Road, 21 kilometers from Chanthaburi town. Covering an area of 280 rai, the centre is primarily responsible for researching and developing economically important horticultural crops in the central and eastern regions of Thailand. Its experimental plots feature a wide variety of plants, including durian, rambutan, mangosteen, tarap, santol, ornamental plants, herbs, and spices, providing opportunities for visitors to learn about different plant species and horticultural practices up close.

For visitors, the centre has established a walking route through ornamental plant gardens, herb gardens, and horticultural plots, which takes approximately 30 minutes. There is also a designated camping area with tents available for rent at 100–200 baht per tent, accommodating 1–3 people. Groups planning to visit are advised to contact the centre at least one week in advance via 0 3939 7030 or 0 3939 7146 during office hours to ensure a smooth experience.

Between May and July each year, various fruit species such as durian, rambutan, mangosteen, and tarap are in season, and several orchards open to visitors for tasting fresh fruits and purchasing them as souvenirs. Notable orchards include Thothong Garden in Mueang Chanthaburi District, Moo 10, Khom Bang Subdistrict, Tel. 0 3945 9339; Saded Yad Garden in Tha Mai District, 183/13, which also offers accommodation, Tel. 08 7111 1335, 08 7111 1338–9; Kulphat Garden in Na Yai Am District, Moo 6, Wang Mai Subdistrict, kilometer 298, Sukhumvit Road, Tel. 08 1809 0366, 08 6155 0222; Krathing Country Resort in Khao Khitchakut District, Moo 2, Pluang Subdistrict, Tel. 0 3945 2454–6; and Khun Winai Santol Garden in Moo 6, Pluang Subdistrict, Tel. 0 3930 7228, 08 1806 9527.

Visiting the Chantaburi Horticultural Research Centre and these orchards offers not only the chance to appreciate the natural beauty and diversity of plant species but also an educational experience in agricultural practices and horticultural management. Tourists can observe planting, care, and harvesting techniques, gaining practical knowledge that can be applied in real-life gardening or farming. Sampling fresh fruits directly from the trees creates memorable experiences, making visits to Chanthaburi enjoyable, engaging, and enriching.

The Chantaburi Horticultural Research Centre is thus both a hub for research and development and an educational destination for visitors interested in nature and agriculture. Touring the centre and the orchards during fruit season allows visitors to experience the authentic lifestyle of Thai farmers, including planting, maintaining, and harvesting horticultural crops, blending learning, hands-on experience, and enjoyment in one comprehensive visit.

Whether planning an agricultural tourism trip, seeking to learn about horticulture, or simply wishing to enjoy fresh fruits amidst natural surroundings, the Chantaburi Horticultural Research Centre and Chanthaburi’s fruit orchards provide a complete and rewarding experience for individuals, families, and student groups interested in agriculture and the natural environment of eastern Thailand.
