Kluai Khai Market in Kamphaeng Phet Province is located along Highway 1, the Kamphaeng Phet–Nakhon Sawan route, at approximately kilometer 343. This roadside market is a must-stop destination for travelers heading north. The market features stalls selling fresh and ripe Kluai Khai bananas, banana chips, and other local products, stretching continuously for about 200 meters. It has become a popular stop for both tourists and passersby traveling along the northern route. Known as "Mok Kluai Khai Market", it has been promoted and developed by the government under a policy to strengthen the local economy by supporting trade, tourism, and income generation for the community. The market not only provides a channel for high-quality agricultural products but also ensures that consumers can shop conveniently, with fair prices and guaranteed standards.
Originally, the area where Mok Kluai Khai Market is located was a sandy hill, and most locals were farmers growing crops such as pumpkin, corn, custard apples, and chili. Between 1973 and 1977, villagers began selling leftover produce from their households, starting with just four or five roadside stalls, primarily selling Kluai Khai bananas in bunches. Later, they began producing various banana-based products such as banana chips and honey-baked bananas, which became increasingly popular with tourists. In 1984, Kamphaeng Phet Province organized the first "Thai Sart Festival: Kluai Khai of Kamphaeng Phet," featuring competitions for Kluai Khai bananas and related products. This event helped Kluai Khai bananas gain recognition as a signature fruit of the province, and Mok Kluai Khai Market gradually grew in popularity, now hosting more than 100 stalls.
The market offers a wide variety of products, including fresh Kluai Khai bananas, ripe bananas, processed banana products like banana chips and honey-baked bananas, local agricultural produce such as pumpkins, corn, chili, and custard apples, as well as local handicrafts and OTOP products that reflect the community's culture and wisdom. Mok Kluai Khai Market is not only a place to buy souvenirs but also a community-based tourist destination where visitors can enjoy tasting fresh products and experience the daily life of local people up close.
Located along the main Bangkok–Chiang Mai route, Mok Kluai Khai Market is conveniently accessible for travelers heading to northern provinces. It is also well connected to key attractions in Kamphaeng Phet, such as Wat Phra Kaew, riverside markets, and the Kamphaeng Phet Historical Park, making it an ideal stop for rest and shopping during travel.
Mok Kluai Khai Market in Kamphaeng Phet Province is more than just a roadside market. It is a hub for high-quality local products, a renowned spot for purchasing Kluai Khai bananas, and a community-based tourism site that generates income for local residents. Visiting the market not only helps stimulate the local economy but also provides an opportunity for travelers to experience the lifestyle, history, and unique taste of one of the province’s most famous fruits.
