Kamphaeng Phet City Pillar Shrine is located within the grounds of Wat Phra Kaew in Kamphaeng Phet Province and is under the care of the Kamphaeng Phet Municipality. The shrine building is a square-shaped reinforced concrete structure with floors paved in sandstone-colored washed marble, reflecting ancient architectural craftsmanship and meticulous detail. This city pillar shrine is over 700 years old and serves as a spiritual center for the locals, who revere the sacredness of the city pillar. It is believed that King Voraman (Me) established the pillar to serve as a focal point for the city’s spirit and a symbol of its stability.

The city pillar is made of cylindrical laterite, about 2 meters in length, buried into the ground so that roughly 2 meters protrude above the surface. At the top of the pillar sits the head of a guardian deity, symbolizing protection and prosperity for the city.

Originally, the shrine had fallen into neglect, but in 1984 it was restored under the supervision of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn (then Crown Prince of Thailand), who performed the sacred anointment of the city pillar on April 16, 1984, on behalf of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX). Subsequently, the city pillar and guardian deity head were ceremoniously placed in the shrine on May 5, 1984.

The people of Kamphaeng Phet hold the shrine in high regard, believing that the city pillar embodies spiritual power and auspicious energy. Locals often come to pay respects and make wishes for prosperity, smooth career paths, good health, and general luck. Additionally, the shrine symbolizes the unity and stability of the local community.

The shrine is conveniently located near the city center and can be reached by car or motorcycle. The surrounding area offers ample parking and a shaded, serene environment, allowing visitors to spend time paying respects, enhancing their auspicious energy, and appreciating the ancient architecture. Visiting the Kamphaeng Phet City Pillar Shrine thus combines spiritual reverence with opportunities to learn about local history, art, and culture.

The Kamphaeng Phet City Pillar Shrine is not only a sacred site for worship but also a historical and cultural heritage that reflects the beliefs and faith of the local people for over 700 years. Visiting the shrine provides a meaningful experience for those seeking both spiritual blessings and cultural insight into the traditions of Kamphaeng Phet.
