Wat Mon Nang is a private temple under the Maha Nikaya monastic order, located in Mon Nang Subdistrict, Phanat Nikhom District, Chon Buri Province. The temple occupies an area of 10 rai and 80 square wah. At present, the abbot is Phra Athikan Phothirat Jitapanyo. The temple serves as a spiritual center for the local community and a venue for Buddhist ceremonies and important merit-making events that have been held for generations.

Wat Mon Nang has a long history, dating back to its establishment in 1842. In the early days, the temple was called Wat Nong Bua (Lotus Pond Temple) because the area once featured a large pond filled with lotus plants. Later, the temple was relocated to a new site about half a kilometer west of the original location. The exact reason for this relocation is unknown. After the move, the temple was renamed “Wat Mon Nang,” taking its name from the nearby village, Mon Nang Sib Song, with the word Sib Song (meaning twelve) removed to make the name shorter and easier to use.

The name “Mon Nang” comes from a natural rock formation in the area. Surrounding the temple are large stones shaped like pillows, collectively known as “Mon Nang Sib Song.” These stones are situated near the Tham Nang Sib Song (Cave of the Twelve Ladies). The land is part of a Chinese shrine called Shrine of the Twelve Ladies. In the past, there were 12 stones gathered together, but today only 4 remain. This natural landmark reflects not only the geographic uniqueness of the site but also the deep connection between the community, its beliefs, and the surrounding natural environment.

The temple was first granted royal consecrated boundary markers (Wisungkhamsima) on January 17, 1898, signifying its importance as a center for religious activities in the community at that time. Later, on April 16, 2004, the temple received another royal grant of boundary markers, reaffirming its continued growth and stability.

With its long history and close ties to the way of life of the local people, Wat Mon Nang is more than just a religious site. It serves as a place that tells the story of the community, its traditions, and the beliefs passed down through generations from the early days when people settled around the lotus pond to the present, where the temple remains a spiritual refuge and a hub for religious and cultural learning. Today, it is also a meaningful destination for those interested in local history and the heritage of communities in Chon Buri Province.
