Wat Kon Kaew is a Buddhist temple under the Mahanikaya sect, located in Tambon Kon Kaew, Amphoe Khlong Khuean, Chachoengsao Province. This temple plays a significant role in both religion and the community, and has been an important site of development from the past to the present.
Wat Kon Kaew was established in 1911 and was granted the status of a "Wisutkammasima" (sanctuary boundary) in 1961. Originally, the site of the temple was a large shrimp pond owned by Mr. Thawee Janklad, which was a round-shaped basin known as "Wang Kon Kaew Phikun Thong," with a diameter of approximately 2 meters and a depth of about 3 meters. Around 2001, Phra Khru Nantasirach, also known as Luang Phor Luea, the abbot of Wat Sao Chokhok, Chachoengsao Province, invited local villagers to build a temple at the site. However, since the name "Kon Kaew" sounded inauspicious, it was changed to "Wat Kon Kaew," which subsequently became the name of the village and sub-district.
Wat Kon Kaew is known for its prominent monk, Phra Khru Suwannasilacharn (Luang Phor Thong), who was a Khmer native skilled in Vipassana meditation, meditation practices, and various occult sciences. He was renowned for his powerful spiritual abilities and high level of compassion. He made significant contributions, including the construction of the Ubosot (ordination hall), several monk's quarters, roads leading to the temple, and the creation of various amulets such as sacred coins, Takrut (magic amulets), and talismanic cloths. He was also well-known for his expertise in tattooing amulets.

Wat Kon Kaew is a significant religious center in the Khlong Khuean district of Chachoengsao Province. With its long history and ongoing development, the temple continues to be an essential place for promoting and preserving Buddhism in the region.
