Tham Yai Nam Nao Cave, also known as “Phu Nam Rin,” is located within Nam Nao National Park in Phetchabun Province, Thailand. Rising approximately 955 meters above sea level, this massive limestone cave is renowned for its striking natural formations, underground stream, and rich ecosystem, making it one of the most fascinating natural attractions in the region.

 

The cave was formed over millions of years through natural erosion processes, resulting in a vast network of chambers filled with stalactites, stalagmites, and towering limestone columns. The shimmering mineral deposits create a unique visual experience that reflects the untouched beauty of nature.

 

One of the cave’s defining features is a clear stream that flows continuously from its entrance, providing a refreshing and humid environment. This natural water source also contributes to the cave’s name “Phu Nam Rin,” meaning a mountain with flowing water.

 

The cave is home to several rare bat species, including Marshall’s horseshoe bat, giant leaf-nosed bat, and large brown bat. These species play a crucial role in maintaining ecological balance, highlighting the cave’s environmental importance.

 

Exploration inside the cave is divided into three main sections. The first section, about 400 meters long, is suitable for general visitors. The second section, ranging from 400 to 1,000 meters, requires more effort, including crawling and climbing. The third section extends up to 4.5 kilometers and is recommended only for experienced explorers with proper equipment.

 

The surrounding area features lush forest, fresh air, and peaceful scenery, making it an ideal destination for nature lovers. Visitors may also encounter various wildlife species, reflecting the richness of the local ecosystem.

 

Getting There involves traveling via the Huai Sanam Sai – Lom Kao Highway. The cave entrance is located at kilometer 60, followed by a 3-kilometer drive to the Nam Nao National Park ranger station. The route includes mountainous terrain, so careful driving is recommended.
