Tham Sombat Cave, also known as “Hermit Treasure Cave,” is a natural and historical attraction located in Bung Nam Tao Subdistrict, Phetchabun Province, Thailand. Approximately 36 kilometers from the city center, this cave is not only known for its limestone formations but also for its historical significance during World War II.

In 1944, during the administration of Prime Minister Plaek Phibunsongkhram, the Thai government planned to relocate the capital to Phetchabun. As part of this initiative, the Ministry of Finance used this cave as a storage site for national assets, making it an important historical landmark.

Today, no government buildings remain, but traces of past construction can still be observed within the cave, offering insight into its former use.

The cave itself features impressive limestone formations, including stalactites and stalagmites that have developed over thousands of years. These natural formations create a visually striking environment and highlight the geological history of the region.

The interior of the cave is cool and humid, providing a calm and mysterious atmosphere. The sound of dripping water and the dim natural lighting enhance the overall experience for visitors.

The surrounding area is rich in forest and mountainous landscapes, offering clean air and a peaceful environment ideal for nature exploration.

Getting There is convenient via Highway 21 (Saraburi – Lom Sak). At kilometer 251–252, turn left at the intersection opposite Phetchabun Airport, then continue for approximately 6.5 kilometers to reach the cave.
