Wat Nong Chumphon is located in Nong Chumphon Subdistrict, Khao Yoi District, Phetchaburi Province. It is a community temple that clearly reflects the foundations of Buddhism in rural central Thailand. Rather than being established through commercial development or tourism promotion, the temple gradually grew from the genuine faith of local villagers. Beginning as a small community monastic residence, it has evolved into a center for religious practice, education, and public activities within Nong Chumphon Subdistrict.

The area surrounding Wat Nong Chumphon remains a traditional rural community, with most residents engaged in agriculture. The peaceful environment contributes to the temple’s calm atmosphere, making it suitable for meditation, merit-making, and the study of Buddhist teachings. As a result, the temple functions not only as a place for religious ceremonies but also as a shared community space that connects people of all generations.

Wat Nong Chumphon originated as “Nong Pho Chumphon Monastic Residence” after receiving a donation of 6 rai of land from Mr. Muan Homklin and Mrs. Niam Homklin, local villagers with strong Buddhist faith. Donating land for religious practice reflected the close bond between religion and daily life within the community. After a monk’s residence was constructed and several monks resided there continuously, the committee initiated the process to officially establish the temple.

The temple was officially established on July 30, 1985, and Phra Athikan Muang Atithammo was invited to serve as abbot. Since the early stages of development, he has overseen temple construction, organized religious activities, and promoted the temple’s educational role. He continues to serve as abbot today and remains highly respected by local residents.

Wat Nong Chumphon possesses three plots of monastic land, totaling 27 rai, 3 ngan, and 47 square wah. This land base provides long-term stability and supports the temple’s multiple roles in religious practice, education, and community activities.

The temple’s structures include a reinforced concrete ordination hall, a sermon hall, a wooden prayer hall, monks’ residences, and a cremation facility. Each building reflects different periods of development and continues to serve practical functions for community events such as annual merit-making ceremonies, funerals, and Buddhist rituals.

Important sacred objects within the temple include the principal Buddha image enshrined in the ordination hall, along with several small, medium, and large Buddha images. These objects serve as the spiritual center for villagers and play a vital role in religious ceremonies, symbolizing the close integration of faith, daily life, and communal belief.

In terms of education, Wat Nong Chumphon plays a prominent role. It established a Buddhist Scripture School (Dhamma Division) in 1986, followed by a Sunday Buddhist Studies Center and a pre-kindergarten child development center in 1993. These initiatives demonstrate the temple’s role in nurturing moral values, personal development, and educational opportunities for rural youth.

Getting There Wat Nong Chumphon is easily accessible by private car. Visitors can travel along the main roads of Khao Yoi District before turning onto local roads leading into Nong Chumphon Subdistrict. Parking is available within the temple grounds.
