Trok Nong Waterfall in Chanthaburi Province is a hidden natural gem nestled deep within the lush evergreen forests of the Sra Bap Mountain Range. Known for its unspoiled beauty and tranquil surroundings, this waterfall is a perfect destination for adventurers and nature lovers seeking peace and serenity away from the bustling city. The crystal-clear water flows vigorously throughout the year, making it an all-season attraction. The scenery is especially breathtaking during the rainy season when the water cascades with even greater force, creating a magical atmosphere amid the dense jungle.

Traveling to Trok Nong Waterfall begins from downtown Chanthaburi. Visitors can take Highway No. 3 (Sukhumvit Road) heading toward Khlong Phlu Subdistrict, then turn onto Highway No. 3249, passing the well-known Namtok Phlio Waterfall. From the ranger station junction, you’ll need to trek approximately 5 kilometers to reach the waterfall itself. The trek takes around one hour and offers a challenging yet rewarding experience. The trail is winding and rugged, with several steep sections requiring climbers to scramble over large rocks. There are many small branching paths along the way, which makes it easy for trekkers to get lost, so it is strongly recommended to arrange for a park ranger or local guide to lead the way for safety and convenience. Though the journey demands stamina and caution, the spectacular views and untouched wilderness along the route make it well worth the effort.

The waterfall consists of three distinct tiers, each offering unique scenery and character. The first tier, known as Namtok Mai Chi (Mai Chi Waterfall), features a gentle cascade surrounded by lush greenery—a perfect spot to rest and cool off. The second tier, Namtok Klang (Middle Waterfall), serves as a midway resting point before heading to the final destination. The uppermost tier, Trok Nong Waterfall, is the highlight of the site. Located about 500 meters from the middle tier, this majestic waterfall features a powerful stream plunging from a high cliff into a small, crystal-clear pool below. The sound of rushing water echoes through the valley, blending harmoniously with birdsong and the subtle hum of the forest, creating an immersive natural symphony that captivates every visitor.

The surrounding area is rich in biodiversity, with a thriving ecosystem of native plants and wildlife. Towering hardwood trees such as rubber and Sompong trees dominate the landscape, while the forest floor teems with undergrowth and exotic plant life. Among the area’s treasures is the Yellow Chanthaburi Orchid, a rare and delicate species found exclusively in eastern Thailand. This biodiversity hotspot offers visitors the chance to witness the intricate balance of life within a tropical rainforest. Wildlife enthusiasts may also encounter serows, a rare and protected mountain goat-antelope species, often spotted in the rocky cliffs during the late afternoon—a true testament to the area’s pristine natural condition.

For those who wish to immerse themselves further in nature, Trok Nong Waterfall offers designated camping areas, allowing visitors to spend the night under a canopy of stars while listening to the soothing sound of cascading water. Alternatively, for travelers seeking greater comfort, accommodations are available at nearby sites such as Namtok Phlio National Park, which provides a range of facilities and services. For more details or to arrange a guided trek, visitors can contact the National Parks Division at +66 2 579 7223 or +66 2 579 5734.

Trok Nong Waterfall is not merely a travel destination but a journey of discovery through one of Thailand’s most untouched and beautiful natural landscapes. It is perfect for trekking enthusiasts, adventurers, and anyone looking to reconnect with nature. The challenging hike, the serene atmosphere, and the breathtaking beauty of the cascading waters combine to create an unforgettable experience. A visit here promises memories that will last a lifetime, making it one of Chanthaburi’s most treasured and worthwhile attractions.
