Wat Saniwong, Nonthaburi Province is a local temple under the Maha Nikaya sect, located in Ban Nong Thap, Nong Prao Ngai Subdistrict, Sai Noi District, Nonthaburi. The temple stands out for its cultural significance, architectural beauty, and role as a spiritual center for the local community.

The temple was established on February 11, 1957, when Mr. Nam and Mrs. Sangiem Seniwong na Ayutthaya donated 50 rai of land for its construction. The temple was named “Wat Saniwong” after the family name of its founders. It was officially recognized as a temple on June 17, 1960, and later granted royal consecrated boundary status on July 19, 1960.

The ordination hall features distinctive architectural elements inspired by Wat Phra Kaew, including extended roof eaves and intricately carved gables. The entrance gate showcases traditional Thai structural design with twelve-cornered columns. The doors and windows are decorated with gold patterns, while the interior features mural paintings created by Nonthaburi artisans.

Surrounding the ordination hall are four pagodas, and at the front stand two guardian giant statues with contrasting expressions. The temple’s bell tower combines a pavilion and pagoda structure, representing a harmonious blend of Thai architectural styles.

The highlight of the temple is Sompratana Pagoda, built in 1997. This bell-shaped pagoda houses Buddha images, statues of Phra Sangkachai in both Thai and Chinese styles, and two pairs of Buddha footprints. It is also a sacred site containing Buddha relics, attracting visitors who come to pray for blessings.

The temple also features the Maha Chat Park (Vessantara Jataka), an educational area divided into two sections: a model of Thailand with a large Buddha statue and a series of sculptures depicting the 14 chapters of the Vessantara Jataka story, providing a clear and engaging learning experience.

Wat Saniwong offers a peaceful atmosphere surrounded by greenery and water, making it ideal for merit-making, meditation, and relaxation. The temple’s unique blend of Thai, Mon, and Chinese art styles makes it a rare and fascinating destination.

Getting There The temple can be reached by car via Kanchanaphisek Road or Bang Bua Thong–Suphan Buri Road, heading toward Sai Noi District.
