The reason for the establishment at that time was to conserve the turtle species. which is a rare and endangered animal and found only in Khlong La-ngu, Satun Province using the name of the agency Turtle Conservation Station and later renamed of the agency many times, for example, in 1984, it was named Satun Freshwater Animal Conservation Station and later, in addition to conserving species tortoise.
 
Other species of freshwater turtles, such as finned turtles and wavy turtles, are also collected for conservation and study. Breeding. In 1990, the name was changed to the Satun Inland Fisheries Development Center. Due to the production of different types of freshwater fish species increased later in 1997, the Department of Fisheries has restructured and moved the Inland Fisheries Development Center to the Trang Freshwater Research and Development Center. Therefore, the name was changed to the Inland Fisheries Station in Satun Province.
