Chumphon Governor (Mr. Bunnak Saisawang) has signed Chumphon Provincial Order No. 18/2523 dated January 7, 1980 on the appointment of a committee to prepare for the establishment of the Institute of Agricultural Technology. Chumphon Campus.
 
The Governor of Chumphon (Mr. Bunnak Saisawang) has issued a letter No. Chor Por 2/1379 dated January 23, 1980 asking the Institute of Agricultural Technology. (Mae Jo University at that time) considered establishing an agricultural higher education institution in the National Reserved Forest area, Lamae District, Chumphon Province.
 
Council of the Institute of Agricultural Technology (formerly) considered in a meeting on February 6, 1980 to accept the principles and appoint a committee. to formulate an action plan with the Chumphon Provincial Committee However, the Institute Council concluded that Establishing a campus takes time. and support budget And most importantly, it must be approved by the Ministry of Universities. to be included in the educational plan according to the economic development plan and the National Society Phase 5 (1982-1986) in the first phase of the establishment to operate as a center for student training and continuing education To provide an internship place for students to train in short courses. and local agricultural research.
 
On June 27, 1980, Mr. Wipat Boonsri Wangsai, President of the Institute of Agricultural Technology has sent a letter to the Governor of Chumphon at Thom 1301/1065 about the establishment of the Institute of Agricultural Technology Chumphon Campus by informing that the Council of Institutions At that time there was a resolution to accept the principle.
 
The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives has approved Maejo Institute of Agricultural Technology to use the Kiam forest area in Lamae Sub-district, Lamae District, Chumphon Province, an area of ​​1,750 rai, which is a National Reserved Forest. According to the Ministerial Regulation No. 137 (BE 2505) issued under the Forest Protection and Reservation Act, B.E. 2481, to establish Maejo Institute of Agricultural Technology. On October 29, 2000, there was an announcement of the Maejo University Council. Regarding the division of departments of Mae Jo University internally by dividing departments in the Office of the President Additional internally, such as the project to establish the Lamae Interdisciplinary Office and to have secretarial work in the project to establish the Interdisciplinary Office of Lamae.

Resolution of the meeting of the University Executive Committee No. 16/2006 held on November 22, 2006 has resolved to eliminate the word "project" in front of the name of the unit. Maejo University - Chumphon project to be used as "Maejo University - Chumphon".
