Wat Dong Ruesi, built in 1781 B.E., was originally a desolate land. Later, many people came to see many Buddha images. an ancient Buddha image and has 2 hermit statues has invited the monks to live in the Buddhist Lent was bestowed with Wisung Kham Sima in 1882 with the Bodhi was the first abbot and at present, the Supreme Court of Chainarin abbot.

Wat Dong Hermit, the reason why it is called Wat Dong Hermit came from the discovery of two hermit statues in the temple area And there is a story about these two hermits related to the name of Ban Nam Mueang of Ban Hong District. There is a story that a rich man had a house at Ban Khun Pae. on the banks of the Ping River Chom Thong District, Chiang Mai Province Ban Khun Pae community at that time was a large community. The rich man had a wealth of wealth. Obtained from the commercial prowess of millionaires. Both taking advantage, cheating, pushing prices, etc. This rich man has two sons.

When the rich man's wife died The rich man devoted his love to his son to find wealth for his son. Both sons grew up in the midst of acquiring property that took advantage of the inferior. Later, the rich man took his two sons to study at the temple. The two men, instead of seeking knowledge to help their father earn a living, were interested in studying the Dharma. and decided to become a monk And there is no sign that he will leave the Sakha The rich man was troubled that his son did not feel it. and does not rejoice in the wealth Worried that if he died, the wealth he had gained was no one to inherit.

So he pleaded with the monk's son Lasikkha by various means until he committed suicide. His son saw this and was afraid of his sins. The rich man gave the caveat that when he was worn out, he would not come back to ordain again. Both monks had to reluctantly leave La Sikkha to live with a rich man. But when he comes home, he doesn't act like a normal young man, still interested in Dharma. Uneasy about his father's wealth So they consulted each other and secretly escaped their father and came up the Ping River. until reaching Li Sop Nam Continue up the Li River until you reach the Pa Wai grove where the current Dong Hermit Temple is located. which is far from Ban Khun Pae where the rich father will follow.

So he decided to be ordained, but was unable to become a monk as he had promised. Therefore, he was ordained as a hermit to practice Dharma here. and happy to practice the Dharma Rice, fish, food, do not care. Me or me, a couple of days, three days I'm enough to survive. until both of them died together. The villagers nearby hadn't seen the hermit come for alms for several days, so they came to see that they were both dead. with the people of the rich that the millionaires sent to find So go tell the rich The rich man brought his wealth and money for funeral arrangements. The rest of the money was used to build the temple. and built a statue of a hermit, 10 cubits high, standing 6 cubits apart. Later, her head was broken. Therefore, he formed a new head like the image of the disciples. as at present Therefore, this temple is called Dong Hermit.
