Royal Thai Handicraft Center (RTC) is situated at 240, Moo.6, Don Kruay Sub-District, Damnoensaduak District, Ratchaburi Province. It is the wood carving demonstration center established with the will to preserve and inherit Thai wood carving.

Thai carving is the traditional artwork. All arts related to wood carving are called “Kruang Mai Cham Lak”. It is the prehistoric Thai art style.

However, since wood easily decays comparing to cement and bricks, Thai art from wood is very rare now. The skilled craftsmen are gathered here to demonstrate and promote Thai wood carving that is rarely found at this moment.

Since it is the work that needs a lot of tolerance and refinement, there are few people who would like to inherit. This center will demonstrate carving on wood. Every artwork takes many months or many years to complete.

The carving can be divided into 3 types as follows.

- Bas-relief (Phab Na Chan) is the picture that can be seen from the front side only since there are very little curves.

- Deep-relief is the picture with three dimensions (dept, width, and height). Some pictures almost come off from the background by looking from the front side.

- Round-relief occurs in sculptures such as the Buddha sculpture that can be seen from every side.

Royal Thai Handicraft Center has these 3 kinds of wood carving styles; bas-relief, deep-relief, and round-relief for decoration and furniture such as wooden pictures, couches, vine cupboards, and screens.

There are also the demonstration of wood carving and mulberry paper making. Souvenir shop provides products for visitors such as bags, lamps, and products from wood.

Travel: Start from Bangkok, drive to Bang Pae Intersection in Ratchaburi Province by using the Public Highway No.4. You will pass Baan Paew Intersection, Nakorn Pathom, the bridge to Kanchanaburi, and Nong Pho Dairy Cooperative.

Go straight at Bang Pho Intersection and continue driving for about 1 kilometer (use the Public Highway No. 325). The Center is at km. 15.
